The 
Camelbak Mule Hydration Backpack comes highly recommended…incidentally, the M.U.L.E. stands for Medium to Ultra Long Endeavors, so, now that’s out the way, what’s the Mule like?
Straight away, you know you’ve got a better than average chance of finding a winner because of the name…Camelbak. Probably the best known and most trusted hydration backpack manufacturer around.
This particular model is the 11L capacity with 3L hydration unit. It is actually a little smaller than advertised at around 9L to 10L…where the extra 2L comes from, we just don’t know.
Most likely made for extreme Mountain Bike activities for its close fit and back support and air vents system, it can, of course, be used for anything you like. Hiking, running, travel, city cycling…the list goes on, what makes the Camelbak Mule Hydration Backpack a little bit special is its build.
The hydration pack is easy to refill, to clean and take sips from the patented Big Bite Valve. There are plenty of small pockets so you can compartmentalize all your little essentials such as repair kit, pump, mp3 player, keys, wallet… and the main area is just big enough for a rolled up light rain coat, gloves and a bit of lunch.
There is also helmet storage, hooks and dividers in the main compartment.
The colours of the Camelbak Mule Hydration Backpack are meant to be highly visible so as to help with safety issues in the murky light, and with the slider sternum straps, it’s easy to get the fit just right.

The attractive and well built backpack get a 4.7 out of 5 for us, with just a tiny moan about the rain cover. It’s not that well designed…it doesn’t quite fit the pack all over…the back straps hinder complete coverage. But, that is just a small gripe, on the whole it’s an excellent piece of kit!
